Toll roads

Here is a concise, well written justification of toll roads. My wife regularly makes fun of me for suggesting that privatizing the interstate system would be a good idea. It's nice to see some sort of economic argument about how to fix road overcrowding.

Now, if someone would explain to me it makes sense to highly subsidize automobiles, moderatley subsidize air travel, and barely subsidize train travel I'd appreciate it.

If anyone explains those for you, I'd love to hear it too.

Simple. Trains are fun to ride hence they don't need any extra economic incentive. Or so I think as I'm taking a train down to portland next week, so we'll see if I'm still protrain after that. At least the trains in Europe have been nice...

Trains fun to ride?

Perhaps in Europe. Japan has fun trains for vacations and for tourism. For work? They're efficient and work, but too popular (packed during rush hour). They do the job but they're not fun.

Trains need to be subsidized. The Big Three should be forced to build out the "bullet" train infrastructure in the U.S.: every state should have three bullet train stops: the state capital, the city with the highest population, and the city with the highest GDP. Each one of these cities should have direct connects to all the neighbor states.

That would be great.
